The race for Starting places
Ready for the probably toughest but also most impressive cycle racing experience that can be found in the Alps? Countless hobby athletes face the "Ötztaler" challenge every year. This unique cycle marathon pushes them to the limit as the exhausting sports event is not in vain considered a highlight in the racing bike scene and a true challenge for every racing cyclist. Registration can be made online from 01 to 31 January 2025, but you will need a little luck as the 4000 coveted and limited participants' places are drawn by lot. The lucky ones can look forward to a starting place.
REGISTRATION
Due to the immense interest in the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon and the limited number of participants for safety reasons, all starting places available will be drawn by lot. Therefore all those who are drawn by lot have the option to register officially for the marathon by paying an entry fee.
Registration and participation in the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon (including side events) are based on the terms and conditions of registration and participation as well as on the currently valid general rules of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon.

Extract from our general terms of registration & Participation
Official registration is only possible from 01 to 31 January 2025 online on the ÖCM website. A registration fee of € 5.00 plus € 0.90 security and transaction fee will be charged per participant. Payment can be made by bank transfer or by credit card. Datasport AG guarantees the highest safety standard for this service offered.
It is possible to register as a single person, a mini group (2-4 persons) or a whole team (5 to 35 persons). If a mini group or a team is drawn, all participants who have officially registered in the registration list in the course of the registration process are automatically included. Multiple registrations are excepted - such registrations will be excluded from the official draw immediately.
The main draw will take place in the middle of February 2025. Persons who get a starting place will be published on the Ötztaler homepage on the day of the raffle and notified by email (it's recommended to check also the SPAM folder).
The maximum number of participants for the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon 2024 is 4000.
The percentage of starting places available for all groups (a) individual starters, (b) mini groups and (c) teams will be made only after the end of the registration phase and depends on the real value of all participants registered. For example, if 65% register as a single starter, 65% of the available starting places will be drawn by lot among individual starters.
The organizer reserves the right to give away a maximum of 500 further starting places (sponsors, media, etc.) which are not part of the official drawing and count as special starting places. Additionally, 500 starting places will be given away in combination with package deal bookings.
The entry fee for the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon 2025 amounts to € 199,00 plus the chip deposit of € 10,00. The chip deposit will be refunded upon return of the undamaged timekeeping chip. All transaction and security fees required must be paid by the participant himself.
Payment of the entry fee is made via the link provided in the confirmation e-mail. Payment can be made either by bank transfer or credit card.
In particular, the starter package includes:
- start number and timekeeping chip
- consumption voucher for the gastronomy in Ötztal valley valid from 29.08. - 01.09.2024
- Ötztaler Cycle Marathon gift
In the course of the event and on the track, the participants can take advantage of varied in-kind benefits, meals and drinks plus other services:
- 5 refreshment stations on the track plus drinks and snacks in the finish area
- Breakdown service on the race course (replacement parts must be paid separately)
- Deposit service including special transport bag
- Free massage service on the track (Schönau refreshment station)
- Download link for the Ötztaler 2025 film highlights
- Video production for several TV stations
- Certificate for all finishers to download via internet
- List of official results - published online on the homepage
- The coveted, high-quality Ötztaler Cycle Marathon Finisher Jersey exclusively available for "finishers" without any exception (for participants who complete the entire marathon course correctly, pass all checkpoints and reach the finish area in Sölden before the course closing car);
- Entertaining side program
- The 3 best participants per class and the 3 best teams receive non-monetary prizes or honorary prizes.
Participants who have registered correctly and have received a starting place can pass it on other persons registered 2025 within the official "transfer period" (28.04. - 19.05.2025). The transfer and processing fee amounts to € 50,00. For organizational reasons, the passing on of starting places is only possible within the above mentioned transfer period.
In order to pass on a starting place correctly, the transfer form available on the event's website must be completed entirely and correctly. After checking these data, the person to whom the starting place is transferred, will receive a personal payment link requesting payment of the transfer and handling fee of € 50,00 by 26.05.2024 at the latest. After receipt of payment, the transfer of the starting place will be activated and registered also in the official start list. The person who gave away the starting place is no longer registered and therefore not authorized any more to take part in the marathon.
- It is strictly forbidden to pass on a starting place in a profitable way. Any profitable transfer (for example sale, auction, etc.) of a starting place (covering not exclusively the official participation and entry fees) will be pursued by the organizer. Such a profitable transfer will result in the immediate cancellation of the registration and both the vendor and the buyer will be suspended from the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon for life.
- When transferring a starting place, also the entire legal relationship is transferred to the transferee. The transferee also undertakes to comply with all laws and regulations, registration terms, entry and participation conditions as well as all official rules and regulations. In addition, the transferee agrees to the privacy policy statements.
- It is not possible to pass on "special starting places" or starting places which are subject to special conditions (for example starting places from the organizer's contingent, quiz draws, starting places provided by sponsors, starting places for press representatives etc.).
If the participant for whatever reason is not able to start in the marathon or participate in a side event, there is no right to a refund of already paid participation and entry fees. The participant has no right of compensation for any expenses or costs or for the cancellation of accommodations booked already.
We also offer a Cancellation Flex Option for the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon 2025. This can be selected and booked directly when registering (€ 20,-). Thanks to this Flex Option you have the possibility to cancel your starting place not only until 24.06.2025 but up to one day before the Ötztaler Cycling Marathon, if you cannot participate for the following reasons:
- Unpredictable illness, (including Covid-19)
- Injury or accident
- Pregnancy of the participant
- Death in the close family
- Serious damage to the person's property
A medical certificate or receipts must be submitted to the organization without being asked. € 199.00 (entry fee without chip deposit) will be refunded by bank transfer.
The Flex Option refers exclusively to the entry fee, but not to additional services.
Without the Cancellation Flex Option, the participant will receive a refund of the entry fee if a written cancellation is sent to radmarathon@oetztal.com until 24.06.2025. The chip deposit of € 10,00 will be deducted as processing fee.
The canceled starting place is not valid for the following year!
Starting places in connection with accommodation (package bookings) are excluded from these regulations. Please contact us directly at: incoming@oetztal.com
- Persons who have registered unsuccessfully within the last three years (2022, 2023, 2024) and have not received a starting place in any other way (for example by passing on a starting place) will receive a non-transferable "special starting place" upon regular registration 2025. These starting places are not subject to the official draw.
- People who have won the overall classification of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, the respective class winners of last year's Ötztaler Cycle Marathon and the 5 fastest members of the winning team of last year's Ötztaler Cycle Marathon receive a non-transferable "special starting place".
