007 SETTING AND ROAD TO A SKIING PARADISE

ÖTZTAL galcier road

It is one of the most iconic pass roads in the Alpine region, the highest road in the Eastern Alps and the filming location for the wild chase in the James Bond movie “Spectre”. From Sölden the Glacier Road winds its way up to Rettenbachferner at 2,830 meters above sea level, continuing through the Rosi-Mittermeier road tunnel to the Tiefenbachferner. You can get up there with the free glacier skibus or by car – you even do not pay the road toll if you have a valid skipass.

The highest road in the Eastern Alps

Along 13 kilometers into spectacular Rettenbachtal side valley, covering more than 1,450 altitude meters straight into the world of glaciers: the highest road in the Eastern Alps is a truly special experience and so you should not be surprised if you still see road cycling professionals riding uphill in certain months while the ski pros already tarin on the snowy racing slopes located above. In general, you have to be prepared for everything in the high alpine terrain, even in autumn. Winter tires are an absolute must and snow chains in the trunk are strongly recommended.

Please note: winter closure!

During the winter months the glacier road is closed to public traffic. You can reach the glacier ski areas via the “Gletscherexpress” connecting lifts.

James Bond film set

In 2015, the 24th James Bond movie “Spectre” was filmed in Sölden for several months. In addition to the ice Q Restaurant as one of the main locations, a lot of filming also took place in the glacier tunnel and on the glacier road.

By the way, the request at the time was: “We need an extreme road for an action-packed chase scene in which Bond chases the villains by plane through high alpine scenery.” No problem, we can provide (scenic) spectacle in Sölden.

In the unique 007 ELEMENTS James Bond Adventure World at the summit of Gaislachkogl you can experience the chase interactively!
