HIGHLIGHTS ON THE VALLEY FLOOR

If you only aim for uphill routes you really miss a lot in Sölden. First of all, novice guests should explore the Adventure Mile that shows a complete overview of the village’s attractions. Those interested in culture can visit the Baroque parish church and the music pavilion event center where not only friends of brass band music get their money's worth. A short detour to the surrounding hamlets reveals the nostalgic Windau mill and “Klammbrücke” - the bridge over the gorge.

Ötztaler Glacier Road
You cover 13 km on the highest road in the Eastern Alps before you arrive on scenic Rettenbach Glacier at 2,830 m. From here you can reach Tiefenbach Glacier via Europe’s highest road tunnel (Rosi-Mittermaier Tunnel). The glacier toll road is a legendary route in many ways - road cyclists climb it dripping with sweat and James Bond fans remember the spectacular chase scenes of the 007 movie “Spectre”. By the way: you can find Bond's airplane - or what is left of it - not far away in the 007 ELEMENTS Adventure World.

Sölden parish church
The “Visitation of Mary” parish church was first mentioned in historical documents in 1288. In 1521, the church was rebuilt and its Gothic structure was maintained but renovated in Baroque style. In 1779, Joseph Anton Puellacher from Telfs decorated the vaults with fresco paintings. During restoration works (1975-1979), parts of the ceiling frescoes, the apostles' crosses and the stations of the cross frescoes were rediscovered.

Windau mill
In the small hamlet of Windau at the height of Windau’s central bridge, walkers discover a small, inconspicuous wooden hut. Only the large wooden wheel at one side reveals that the building is a mill. Even today the mill is still operated by eight residents of the village.
