UNRIVALED GLACIER SPECTACLE
It is probably the most extraordinary and outstanding spectacle in the Alps: HANNIBAL transfers the history of Carthage straight to Sölden’s glacier world. Together with us and Red Bull, the artist network around Lawine Torrèn stages Hannibal's historic alpine crossing by using snow groomers, airplanes, dancers, helicopters and extreme athletes at 3,000 m above sea level. A truly memorable experience!
COURSE OF AN ALPINE CROSSING
Hannibal is a provocation in more ways than just one. In 218 BC the man from Carthage attempted to cross the - then as now – majestic and formidable Alps together with 60,000 people from half Europe, half Africa and 36 elephants. The memorable project was born out of desperation, anger at the never-ending taunts of the Romans in Spain, a heartland of the seafaring Carthaginians. Breaches of contract here, attacks there.
The Romans' goal was to wear Carthage down. But they didn't count on Hannibal and his ingenious feeling for people, leadership and his great luck.
Glacier Stage
This life story of a tragic hero forms the narrative backbone of this unique cinemascope experience, texts by Joey Wimplinger, spoken by Harald Krassnitzer, interwoven with the dramatic soundtrack by Peter Valentin.
Anyone who has ever witnessed this spectacle and shared the thrill, cheered and suffered with the title character will come back to experience an unforgettable show held on a 6 cubic kilometer high alpine scenery. The unbelievable happens right in front of the spectators' eyes. Initiator Ernst Lorenzi states: "Snow groomers become elephants, hundreds of skiers and paragliders illuminate the horizon and merge with Frank Lischka's spectacular light to create real immersion."
However, the overwhelming natural setting and everything that happens in it are closely linked to a story that recently captivated up to 8,000 viewers. A modern parable about striving for power, love, intrigues and world politics. Carefully choreographed, meticulously staged and perfectly organized by director Hubert Lepka, over 300 performers appear on a stage made of eternal ice and snow. Here the weather plays its own role, the mountain lifts provide transport and catering and the entire scenery promises a truly memorable experience.
