Sheep drive to summer quarters
Description
The cross-border sheep drive over the Ötztal main ridge of the Alps is one of the outstanding features of our region. The hike takes us from Vent (1,900m) through the historically interesting Niedertal up to the Martin Busch Hütte (2,501m). Along the way, hiking guide Alfons talks about the old grazing rights and the centuries-old tradition of driving sheep, about the history of the “Kaser” pasture and the old shepherds’ hut. Near the Martin Busch Hütte we welcome the sheep that have come the long way from Schnalstal valley over the 3,000m high Niederjoch and are now enjoying their well-deserved summer break on the lush high pastures in the Niedertal valley. After a break together, we hike back to Vent.
